Yesterday I arrived home early to put a turkey in the oven for my wife. As I was doing so my buyer's agent called with a question on one of my listings and asked if I had heard about the shooting at Westroads Mall. I hadn't. I dropped everything and turned on the tv.
As I am sure you have heard a gunman killed eight people and then himself at the Von Maur department store. I watched as reporters tried to gather what little information was available. Flipping through the local channels, I caught part of an interview with an eyewitness. She was explaining what she saw and I heard her mention the name Beverly Flynn. I stopped and thought "I know a Beverly Flynn." I had done a deal with her earlier this year. She represented the buyer purchasing a listing of mine at 4173 Cass St. I didn't know if the person being interviewed was saying that Beverly had been shot or that she got away. I didn't even know if it was the same Beverly Flynn.
I had her number saved in my cell phone so I tried to call her to see if she was okay or if it turned out to be a different Beverly Flynn so that she could let her friends and family know that she was okay and that it was someone else with the same name. There was no answer.
Today I found out it was her and that she was killed. I remember seeing in her MLS profile a comment she made about smelling the roses. She seemed like a nice person and was easy to work with - there is definitely a shortage of people like her in real estate.
Although I didn't really know her well, it saddens me. Hopefully this post shows that each one of those who lost their lives touched many people. My condolences go out to Beverly's family and friends.
