Last week La Vista joined hands with Sunnyvale, California.  Seems like the appropriate thing to do when winter just won't leave.  This was not about weather.  It was a sought after business venture.  Yahoo, a company out of Sunnyvale opened the company's new data center in La Vista (part of the Omaha Metropolitan area) on 108^th and Giles Rd.  The center will consist of equipment and computers that will service Yahoo throughout the country.   Eventually the center will house 100,000 computers. Currently it is at half capacity.  Opening the data center in La Vista is the first phase in what will become the company's biggest center once Yahoo completes its expansion. 

Governor Heineman noted at the opening ceremony that companies seek cities like Omaha because of low energy costs, good work ethic, and our quality of life - many of the same reasons why people relocate to Omaha and buy homes here.  A big Welcome to Yahoo!

Omaha Nebraska makes the Grade in Education

Education is important to all parents and students alike.  Nebraska has shown that they are committed to education. 

This year Nebraska has continued to keep their test scores above the national average going on 6 years straight.

With over 24,332 teachers and almost half of them having masters degrees our children continue to be in great hands.

Greater Omaha is home to a higher percentage of high school and college graduates than the national averages. In fact, 92.4% of adults 25 and older are high school graduates, compared to the national average of 85.5%. And, 34.9% have earned bachelor's degree or above, compared to the national average of 28.2%.

The Omaha Public Schools and the city of Omaha are very proud of the staff and teachers.  They have over 7,000 employees that are involved in the daily operation of the schools.  The teachers come from all 50 states and attended more than 340 colleges and universities.  They have on average 11.7 years of experience.  Many of the Omaha Teachers have won the Nebraska Teacher of the Year award, Presidential Excellence award, and other national, regional and local citations.

Novozymes, Enzyme Technology Company comes to Omaha Area

Novozymes is a new company to the Omaha metro.  The facility that they are building in Blair, NE will produce enzymes for existing corn-based ethanol and later enzymes for cellulosic ethanol production. Cellulosic ethanol is produced from wood chips, stalks, and leaves as opposed to corn.

The new facility will be located on a 30-acre property at the bio-refinery campus in Blair, approximately 25 miles north of Omaha. The facility will be operational in 2010 and will bring one hundred new jobs to the area.

After reviewing locations around the world, Novozymes chose the Omaha area due to factors such as raw material sourcing, utilities supply, transportation costs, construction costs, infrastructure, and the availability of a skilled workforce. As a real estate agent, I'm sure the low cost of land also played a part in their decision.

Piatek is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and the Polish Home. He and his wife became citizens in 1989. They have three children, Karolina (who is in charge of sales), Oliver, and Justina.
