Horrifying Historic House Outside of Omaha

Want to take a day trip outside of Omaha and experience some horrifying Midwestern history? Interested in seeing some haunted real estate? Take a drive to Villisca, IA.

Villisca, IA is such a quaint small town within an hour and a half driving distance from Omaha but, there is something about "that" house on lot 310. It's a simple quiet white frame house that sits in the small town, but its history is not so quiet.  On June 10, 1912, this quaint little town was shocked by the brutal murders of a family of six and two guests.   It is believed that the murderer or murderers hid in the attic (pictured below) until the family was asleep. In the middle of the night the Moore family and two neighborhood children that were staying the night were killed in their beds.

Over the years, this house has housed many residents only to have them running out. The "Villisca Axe Murder House" is said to be haunted. Many who visit have been said to witness abnormal or maybe even paranormal experiences. Psychics, Ghost Hunters, and many more of the like, have also been said to capture proof that the house is haunted. Even given all the evidence of the haunting, the murders have been remained unsolved. Kind of leaves things a little unsettled... especially for a family that was murdered so many years ago. For those that visit the home, it tends to make one question their beliefs.

The house has been kept in it's original condition with furnishings and items from the early nineteen hundreds. The only things that stand out as unusual are the toys that visitors bring for the ghosts of the slain children to play with.

The fascination of the Villisca Axe Murder house has been drawing people from all over to visit, witness, and experience for themselves. To get there leave Omaha on Hwy 6 (Dodge St), head south on Interstate 29. Head east on Hwy 34, then head south on Hwy 71. Leaving Hwy 71, exit onto W High St and head south on N U Ave. Take a left (east) on Hwy 54, then head south on S 3^rd Ave. Take a left on 4^th St and go to the Olson Linn Museum at 323 E 4^th St. This is where your tour begins. La Vista Daze 2010

The annual La Vista Daze festival is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. The theme is "Solid Gold: 50th Anniversary Celebration" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of La Vista NE. One of the highlights of the celebration include the La Vista Daze Parade. The parade starts Saturday May 29th at 1:00 at 87th and Park View Blvd and ends at Central Park on Edgewood Blvd.

Other events include a Community Cookout, free concert by The Noteables, Dodgeball Challenge, and Fireworks.
